Getting the proper pigment is just the beginning! So much of the quality of oil paint is in the grinding. Each color is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some colors by nature will feel slightly gritty, others extremely smooth. For instance, Cerulean Blue will have a beautiful velvet, light-absorbing surface with an extremely strong covering power; Siennas, by comparison, are often chunky or gritty to allow light to travel through the vehicle, exposing rich golden or mahogany undertow instead of just heavy, dull browns. Pigments are ground in pure alkali-refined, ph balanced linseed oil, and made in batches no larger than 5 gallons at a time. This gives total control over the paint, much like late 19th-century French color makers. All materials are hand measured, and every ounce of paint is scrutinized. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are then packaged in 37ml and 150ml non-reactive aluminum tubes. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are used by the world’s finest artists, whose works can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA in New York City, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Beaubourg in Paris. Going back to the earliest traditions of oil painting, Williamsburg offers 13 whites, blues, and other delicate transparent colors made with a far less yellowing safflower binder. Artists will find these invaluable for holding onto maximum clarity and brightness in the upper layers of their paintings. These colors are not recommended for underpainting or foundational layers within a painting, as safflower oil binder takes longer to dry and produces a slightly weaker film. Milled with the highest quality, expeller-pressed Safflower Oil, the line features Porcelain White as the only color of the line not offered in their Linseed-based oils. Porcelain White is a less brittle, semi-transparent alternative to Zinc White. As with all of Williamsburg’s products, their Safflower Oil Colors are painstakingly made by hand. They are available from Jerry’s in 37ml and 150ml tubes. Key Features:* Handmade Safflower Oil Colors* Longer dry times than linseed colors* Non-yellowing white & transparent colors* Safflower oil line of 13 colors* Perfect For:* Professional Oil Painters* Discerning students & amateurs* Artists concerned about yellowing* Enthusiasts of handmade oil paints See More -
